Welcome to the online discussion forum featuring Dr. Paul Jacobs' regular column, “Psychosocial Potential Maximization.”

In the September/October 2009 issue of Volta Voices,Dr. Jacobs introduced a series of columns discussing social themes that allow individuals who are deaf to maximize their potential. These themes are:

We invite you to use the discussion forum for each entry to ask questions, provide your own real-life experiences, and engage in meaningful and helpful conversations with Dr. Jacobs and other individuals with hearing loss, their families and the professionals that serve them.

About the Author

Paul Gordon Jacobs, Ph.D., is the author of “Neither-Nor: A Young Australian’s Experience with Deafness.” Profoundly deaf since 5 years old, his Ph.D. research discovered eight proactive psychosocial attributes and tactics used by vocationally and socially successful individuals with deafness. Dr. Jacobs works for the Institute of Social Participation at La Trobe University in Australia. Dr. Jacobs can be reached at neithernor74@yahoo.com.au.
