Tips on Locating an AG Bell Recommender
Locating a Recommender for your Financial Aid/Scholarship Application
The Alexander Graham Bell Association Financial Aid Programs require that one of the people chosen to submit a recommendation on behalf of the applicant must be a member of the Association. Membership in the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, while not required, is strongly encouraged. AG Bell is a large and diverse membership organization of parents, health and education professionals, and individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing who use speech as their primary method of communication.
The following suggestions may be helpful in locating a national or international AG Bell member for a recommendation:
- Contact your child's audiologist, physician, speech-language pathologist, Auditory-Verbal therapist, to ask if they are members of AG Bell or if they have colleagues who are members.
- Ask your child's teacher or staff at your child's school, as well as other parents in health or education programs with which you are affiliated.
- Consider asking a staff person in hearing health or education to join AG Bell to become a recommender.
- Contact the chapter president in your state or, where appropriate, International Affiliate leaders to see if there may be other sources that we are not aware of. AG Bell chapter leaders are volunteers, and may or may not be able to assist you in your search. Locate a chapter or international affiliate in your country.
We hope these suggestions will be helpful to you in your search in locating an AG Bell member. If you are unable to locate a person who knows the applicant who is also a member of AG Bell, submit the required number of recommendations but note that, although you searched, you were unable to connect with an AG Bell member.
