AG BELL 2009 LISTENING & SPOKEN LANGUAGE SYMPOSIUMJuly 23-25, 2009
St. Louis Union Station Marriott
Join us in St. Louis July 23 -25 for AG Bell’s Listening & Spoken Language Symposium, designed for professionals working with children and adults who are deaf or hard of hearing and use listening and spoken language. This year’s theme is Executive Function (EF) – a critical aspect for children to learn how to learn. Vital to the development of problem solving, social competence and academic readiness, EF is a cognitive (thinking) process that influences and controls behavior such as working memory, organizational strategies and inhibition.
Understanding EF is essential for professionals working with children with hearing loss. In spite of early hearing detection and intervention and the dramatic advancement of hearing technologies, some children who are deaf or hard of hearing continue to exhibit learning challenges while others are not maximizing their potential. At the heart of these challenges may be an understanding of Executive Function.
